This book has been enjoying the patronage of its readers for the last forty one years in Indian subcontinent. An American Library Scientist, while reviewing the book has termed it as ‘ The Professional Bible for Indian Librarians’, Since then the book has been growing both in size and contents. The first edition had 514 pages and 23 chapters whereas the current edition runs into 840 plus pages and 26 chapters. Considered to be the bible for Library Classification by students and teachers of library and information science in Indian subcontinent, this book certainly presents the most comprehensive coverage of the subject. The book carries a foreword by Late Dr. S.R. Ranganathan whose view for this book was ‘The present book gives a comprehensive account of the organization and administration of a library’.
